The Citma delegation in Holguín is approaching the Cuban Science Day, which is celebrated every year on January 15, with intense work by the entire Holguin scientific community during 2021 that accompanied the government’s management in the province in search of transform and develop the territory from Science, Technology and Innovation.
In the territory 123 projects are executed, of which 19 are associated with national programs, the scientific results are taxed on macroprograms, programs and projects for the implementation of the National Plan for economic and social development until 2030.
The efficient use of energy in strategic sectors such as Agriculture and Tourism in the province of Holguín can be highlighted as strengths; the development of renewable energy sources from biomass and solar energy; the pilot plant for the production of biodiesel from used vegetable oils; the work with four commercial varieties of corn and the lines for the possible formation of hybrids. The productive chain of UEICAH, the University of Holguín and the Guatemalan company in Mayarí was also achieved.
In the search for Sustainable Tourism Development, the coordination of coastal environmental management stands out; the management of marine grasses on the Guardalavaca and Estero Ciego beaches; as well as the rehabilitation and sanitation of the Esmeralda and Yuraguanal beaches.
Undoubtedly, health achievements prevail with projects on Hereditary Ataxias in the areas of Neurobiology; in Natural and Traditional Medicine, the safety and efficacy of the natural product “CBA-100” as an adjuvant for the treatment of patients with Covid-19 and in Oncology, the protocol for the investigation of abdominal tumors in pediatric age and the educational strategy to increase knowledge about the risks of cervical cancer since adolescence.
Holguin science worked on the solution or mitigation of environmental problems in the territory with novel contributions and relevant impacts on the use and management of natural resources.
During the year, the promotion of the protection of coastal areas stands out as part of the Life Task, extended along 200 kilometers of the northern coast of the territory, with initiatives such as the collection of solid waste and the planting of mangroves.
Outstanding entities in the territory include the Hotel Playa Pesquero, the Raudal Company, the Rocazul Biopark and the projects “Economic valuation of marine-coastal ecosystems in protected areas and for tourist use in the province of Holguín”, “Ecoarte” as well as “Grupo of Disaster Risk Reduction and Coping with Climate Change of the University of Moa ”, among others.
Taking into account the contributions to the elimination of substances that deplete the Ozone Layer, the Holguinian leadership of Citma highlighted the Cauce Company, the “Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja” Pediatric Hospital, the “Comandante René Ramos Latour” Service Company. ”And the“ Comandante Gustavo Machín ”Nickel Mechanic Company.
Despite the epidemiological situation imposed by Covid 19, there were several events that took place during the year, among them the Inovation Day and Expoambiente 2021, which showed in person and virtual the advances of Holguin science.
Many are the achievements of the Holguin scientific community but the challenges with which they are heading to celebrate next January 13, the provincial act for Cuban Science Day in homage to our scientists, innovators and researchers who have the premise of doing Science from the heart.
