the Pampa Azul Initiative It is an inter-institutional scientific and strategic program promoted by the Argentine government, led by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MINCyT), whose goal is to study, conserve and sustainably use marine and coastal resources of the South Atlantic. . The initiative was created in 2014 and relaunched in 2020, and is part of the country’s sustainable development policies and the promotion of scientific and technological research.

For this reason, after the first ten years of its existence, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, responsible for the operational coordination of the programme, is pleased to invite the general public and institutions interested in the subject to participate in the first conference of the Pampa Azul Initiative, which will be held at the NH Gran Hotel Provincial, located on Patricio Street. Peralta Ramos 2502 in Mar del Plata, November 7 and 8 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Daniel Vilmos, will participate in this event, in the presence of members of the Board of Directors, the Inter-Ministerial Committee, Scientific and Technological Advisory Councils, and researchers and members of the working groups. The aim of the conference is to present the balance and the main achievements achieved over these ten years of the Pampa Azul, as well as to reflect on its future and the future of our maritime country consisting of two continents. The conference is open to the public, so we hope that scientists, technicians, teachers, researchers, university and high school students, national, regional and municipal officials, business people, civil society associations, business organizations and the general public will participate.

The thematic themes of the conference are:

● Geopolitics and Sovereignty in the South Atlantic: Strategies for a Contested Territory.

● What is marine science and for which country? Strategic scientific guidelines for building a maritime state and two continents.

● Marine technologies: capabilities and challenges for the next ten years.

● Fishing and mariculture: sustainable improvement in the productive capacity of the Argentine Sea.

● Pampa Azul in the regions: consolidating local capacities through marine science.

● Research and development: science and technology to transform the reality of the Argentine Sea and its coasts:
o Technological research and development projects within the framework of
Pampa Azul Initiative.
o Priority geographical areas: diagnosis, balances and challenges.

● Comprehensive training of human capabilities in marine sciences: challenging the thinking and study of the pampas azul.

Activities: There will be panels of specialists, scientists, authorities and key actors in various thematic themes, talks by researchers, young scientists in training in marine sciences and teachers from blue schools, among others.

There will be space to display posters related to the research and technological development of working groups in priority geographical areas, research and technological development projects (PIDT) and other strategies funded by the Pampa Azul Initiative.

In addition, during the two days, documentaries produced by the Pampa Azul Initiative will be screened.
