Launch of a website to get to know Argentina’s Notables of Science better

The Nobel laureates Bernardo Houssay and Luis Leloir, and Eugenia Sacerdote de Lustig, key researcher in vaccination against poliomyelitis, are some scientists who will be part of the “Notables of Science” site, aimed at disseminating the work of researchers in the country.

The project is called “Notables of Science” and will be launched on March 12 through an event that will be transmitted via streaming.

The site is promoted by Conicet -organism to which Houssay, Leloir and Priest of Lustig belonged-, the Leloir Institute Foundation (FIL) and the Institute of Experimental Biology and Medicine (IBYME), with the collaboration of foundations and institutions.

Its objective is to make visible the relevance of the life, work and legacy of for Argentine science of the three researchers and their impact on science at an international level.

As reported by the CyTA-Leloir Agency, “the idea is to continue adding more leading figures of national science from other fields of knowledge.”

The online platform has audiovisual materials; sound recordings; interviews with disciples, researchers and close friends; photographs of the protagonists, their laboratory notebooks, correspondence and passages from their lives, awards and other objects; illustrations; texts; newspaper clippings and other tools.

All these materials were digitized by the institutions involved and are integrated into the Conicet Digital Institutional Repository in order to organize, preserve and make them public through a tour that invites different sections.

The online platform also has a prominent section that aims to recover the figure of the mentor / mentor in young people.

“Mentoring is a model of academic excellence, ethics, commitment and human values ​​with successful results that was clearly and thoroughly expressed between Houssay and Leloir, and also between Priest of Lustig and his disciples. Its study can enrich and inspire the education of the present and the future at all levels “, indicate creators.
