The composer and producer presents his new promotional single “Good Luck” which he produced with Luigi Manzoni. In this conversation with La Nación/Nación Media, the artist talks about his experience in the creative process, the result of which was the result of a dialogue with other creations by artists who preceded him and others with whom he currently coexists.

Area 69, Los Chamos del Momento, Los Verduleros and BritRanchera are some of the musical projects that have marked the roadmap of Mory Rodas, the local composer and producer who is currently promoting his new single “Good Luck”, within the framework of his work. Mauricio y las Cigarras solo project with Inout Music Prod label.

Mori understands his artistic and vocal portfolio from the special moments he experiences in music and in his life itself. Now he is diving between this sound that characterized his early steps and the context of current music, discovering his creative potential and promoting his latest work. In this interview, he talks about his present, his proposal, and his plans.

-I make music by listening to music. I get song ideas from other songs, then something triggers me and I sit down at the computer. In the case of “Good Luck” specifically, it’s a mixture of many songs by other international composers, with a lot of listening to the music and ideas that I’ve saved here on the phone, or a guitar riff or some sheet music that I’ve been saving. also. This is pretty much my process, and it’s a bit messy, but I usually get there.

– I started gathering the ideas I had and put them together one Sunday afternoon, first the whole musical and melodic part of the song, then the demo, no lyrics, humming. And there I stayed for weeks with that idea, searching for what to write to him, to see what he wanted to talk about, and what was the right time to say it. At the time I was going through a somewhat complicated romantic relationship situation. I felt like it was already coming to an end and I wanted to flip the switch to end the bad relationship and have everything be okay. In other words, “the ability to say goodbye is increasing,” said Gustavo Cerati. So saying “good luck” would be like saying “thank you, thank you for everything, have a good time, see you later”. Something like this. This idea stuck and then I started writing and searching my notes for phrases, quotes and notes.

-Lately, in the last songs I’ve released and produced in general, there comes a moment where it seems like I’m stuck, I don’t have anywhere to go anymore and I think it’s time for someone else to do it. Put or leave their mark on this. Well, with Roberto “Shirola” Ruiz Díaz, we worked for many years on many songs, most of them composed by me, some of them also by Kchiporros in the lyrical part. I love how he writes. I believe that when we unite our words, verses, and thoughts, they coexist the way I like. I send him a form on Whatsapp, he is always enthusiastic and gives me a response from his side upon touch, maximum after a day. I love that exercise of writing songs like that with him.

– No, in “Good Luck” a new character was added, a new character, Ricardo Garcia, known as Mostrico. A young Venezuelan guy is here working hard, making a lot of noise and shaking up the trap, hip-hop and rap scene in Asuncion. We met by chance. He insisted that I was starting to hear some things from him, so I wanted to write something down. I put the idea to him and he responded to my touch again, sang to me and there was another part of the verse. So, in the end, we ended up writing the song between the three of us, at different times and without practically seeing each other, just on WhatsApp. That’s a plus for technology and all that stuff.

– The production of this song was the responsibility of Luigi Manzoni, who is also another great talent and discovery but great for me, because although I knew him as a musician, I did not know him as a producer. The dynamic of working with him was that once the model was ready, I talked to him. I mean I was just seeing some work he’s done with other bands that caught my attention. There I wrote to him, sent him the song, and he liked it, and the first time I went into the studio, he actually put together almost the whole song. He is also very talented, as he plays several musical instruments. I love knowing that activity he has and that speed. The first time I went I had almost the entire topic. Almost everything we hear now was already there. And I loved it once. If I don’t like someone, I’d rather go to something else.

– With these works, I intend to go back a little to the previous songs, to the previous influences, obviously seasoned with something more modern. The material I’ve been working on lately has been large productions, involving many musicians, and I’ve spent a lot of time studying, recording, composing, going back and forth, can’t, can’t, insecurities, the million things that are part of a large, complex production. . After going through all that baggage, I now feel like I’m in the moment of writing a song with a simpler vibe and slower tempo.

– Contemporary music attracts me, or rather artists of the urban and earthy genre like Bad Bunny and Rosalía, we will include C. Tangana, who are current projects and more in Spanish, attract my attention. I’m so amazed at how they use words that everyone uses and some of them are quite corny or very repetitive, but the way they say them or how they make them stay within the lines of a paragraph of the song gives it a touch. With the same words we all always use, they tell you, but in a different way, not just in location within the genre, but also in the way they say it phonetically, the expression they use, the form, the tone. From the sound. One of my biggest classical influences is that I’ve always loved The Beatles. I was hooked on the last song they released that blew my mind, and this whole process as well. I also like The Doors, Nirvana, Bronco, Jorge Drexler, Café Tacuba, Los Tres, IKV and Gustavo Cerati, please, he is a very important influence in every sense.

– I think that the scene today is in a process of change and there is a lot of curiosity and a lot of movement. Musicians are working, things are happening, there’s more exposure. Here we have the case of our colleagues and friends from Tierra Adentro, who were nominated for a Grammy Award; The queporos, who go to Mexico; Homemade cult, that’s going to Lollapalooza.

There is a movement of people coming out which is very much reflected in the scene. The next generations of musicians grow up and see that it is possible and that there is no magic, there is complete work.

– I believe that I am currently at a moment that is considered an important peak in my career. Above all, in the creative part. There I feel very trained, let’s say, at hand and I do things that amaze me, technically. I love the present moment I’m in, I love it, I’m excited about it, and it makes me want to keep creating. I know there is more and that we can have better moments of it all.

– Short term projects for the summer are gigging, going out to show, going out to show this new song we just released. Well, personally, a little more in the medium term, to continue creating these musical experiences that play Las Cigarras songs and other projects that I love.
