A total of 2,482 pupils between the ages of 4 and 12, belonging to 62 early childhood and primary education centers in 29 municipalities in Ji’an Province, participated in the sixth edition of the Faculty of Science of Ji’an University (UJA)..
It is a scholarly publishing activity involving 118 researchers and 19 students from UJA. They were responsible for organizing 31 different workshops between February and June, the academic institution reported on Monday.
It aims to awaken scientific vocations in the youngest members of society by knowing the research activity that takes place at UJA and bringing science and innovation closer to those who are not in direct contact with them, especially the schools they are because of. From their geographical distance, it is difficult for them to have constant contact with public research organizations.
Likewise, the objectives of the initiative are to promote interest in science as a professional activity and as a form of human development and to publicize the importance of science and technology in wealth creation and social well-being.
The Faculty of Science is organized by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i) of the Office of the Vice President for Communications and Regional Development and is part of UJA’s 13th Scientific Publication Plan.
To bring the research carried out at the University of Jaen closer to primary school students and infants throughout the province, through a series of workshops designed by its research staff, completely free of charge and which took place directly in the centers that requested it.
They dealt with subjects as diverse as biology, archaeology, physical activity, engineering, history, astronomy, law, economics, computing, psychology, linguistics, health sciences, mathematics, and languages. They use interactive communication formats that have served as a way to bring science closer to students and spark their curiosity.
Since its launch in the 2015-2016 academic year, UJA College of Science has provided nearly 200 workshops to around 11,000 minors from the entire Ji’an Province. Collaborates with the Education Delegation of the Junta of Andalusia and with the support of the Provincial Council of Jaén and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (Fecyt) of the Ministry of Science and Innovation.
