“It has made it a criminal offense for any Russian aircraft to enter UK airspace, and now HMG can stop those planes. We will stifle the ability of Putin’s friends to continue living normally while thousands of innocents die,” British Transport Secretary Hon Grant Shapps wrote on his Twitter account.

The ban includes any aircraft owned, operated or leased by any person associated with Russia. or specified persons or entities, and will include the authority to ground any aircraft owned by persons associated with Russia.

The new powers They will also allow the government to remove aircraft belonging to Russian individuals and entities from the UK’s aircraft registry.

Additional commercial measures, also introduced today, Banning UK exports of aviation or space materials and technology to Russia, including related services such as insurance and reinsurance services. This means that coverage has been withdrawn under current policies and UK insurers and reinsurers will not be able to pay claims in relation to existing policies in these sectors.

These new measures will add to the growing economic pressure on Russia They will ensure that the UK complies with the sanctions imposed by our allies.
