The Deathray Davies are continuing their return to the indie rock scene with a new album, LAMPSHADE EARTHQUAKE MICROPHONE, scheduled for release on November 6, 2026. The band has introduced the project with its first advance single, “Red Lights,” offering an early look at a record combining psychedelic pop, garage rock and elaborate studio experimentation.
The 13-track album will arrive through Having Fun / We Are Busy Bodies and follows Time Well Wasted, the 2021 release that marked The Deathray Davies’ comeback after a 15-year hiatus. While that record re-established the group, the material behind the upcoming album reaches further into the band’s history.
New Album Revives Recording Sessions From 2006
Much of LAMPSHADE EARTHQUAKE MICROPHONE originated with a recording project started in 2006 but ultimately shelved. The band later returned to those sessions, reworking and polishing the material into the 13 songs that now form the album.
Rather than simply restoring the older recordings, The Deathray Davies developed the material into a project reflecting the band’s current approach. The songs draw inspiration from vintage garage rock and psychedelic pop while incorporating musique concrète elements and detailed studio production.
The album was completed during sessions at several Texas recording locations, including DRM and Valve in Dallas and Echo Lab in Denton. Additional work took place at Dufilho’s home studio, Elephant Cloud, where he handled mixing and mastering duties.
Dufilho performs guitar and keyboards on much of the record, while Garner plays bass. The pair trade drumming responsibilities and sing together throughout the album. Live band members Rich Martin, Nick Earl, Andy Lester and Mike Middleton also contributed.
“Red Lights” Highlights Longstanding Collaborations
The album brings together musicians connected to both the original 2006 sessions and the wider indie-rock community surrounding The Deathray Davies.
Dufilho’s bandmates from The Apples in Stereo contributed vocals to the project. The late Bill Doss, co-founder of The Olivia Tremor Control, also contributed vocals and recorded a group of horn players from Athens, Georgia. Those horns can be heard on tracks including the first single, “Red Lights.”
The Apples in Stereo leader Robert Schneider also played a role in organizing the older recordings. Schneider spent about a week with Dufilho reviewing the archived sessions and working through ideas originally recorded roughly two decades earlier.
Those collaborations give the new album a connection to the psychedelic and indie-pop circles associated with The Apples in Stereo, The Olivia Tremor Control and the broader Elephant 6 community.
Thirteen Tracks Connect the Band’s Past and Present
Although LAMPSHADE EARTHQUAKE MICROPHONE shares characteristics with earlier Deathray Davies material, the album is positioned less as a return to form than as a continuation of ideas left unfinished years ago.
The revived recordings have been expanded through new performances, additional collaborators and updated production work, bringing together material from different stages of the band’s history.

The November 6 release will bring those sessions together as a completed 13-track album shaped by longtime collaborators and the band’s renewed creative momentum.
