OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready has placed Mending Health Insurance in Oklahoma, Inc. into conservatorship following concerns about the company’s financial stability. The move gives state regulators direct control over the insurer’s operations as officials work to protect policyholders and assess the company’s financial condition.
The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) said the decision follows months of regulatory oversight and is intended to safeguard consumers while the insurer prepares to withdraw from the state’s health insurance marketplace at the end of 2026.
Oklahoma Takes Control of Mending Health Insurance Operations
Commissioner Mulready announced the conservatorship after determining that Mending Health’s financial position required stronger regulatory intervention.
“Our number one priority is consumer protection,” Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready said. “Given the company’s financial situation, I determined this strong approach was a necessary step to protect policyholders. Through this conservatorship, we can take control of the company and determine the best path forward for its Oklahoma members.”
The decision follows an earlier regulatory action on July 31, 2026, when Mulready placed Mending Health under administrative supervision.
During that period, the Oklahoma Insurance Department closely monitored the company’s operations and financial condition. Regulators subsequently concluded that conservatorship was necessary to protect Oklahoma residents enrolled in the insurer’s health plans.
What Conservatorship Means for Policyholders
Under conservatorship, Commissioner Mulready assumes responsibility for the company’s day-to-day management and gains authority to conduct a comprehensive examination of its finances.
The process allows state insurance regulators to oversee the insurer’s operations, evaluate its financial obligations and determine appropriate steps to protect members.
Importantly, Mending Health insurance policies will remain in effect for now, according to the department.
Policyholders must continue paying their insurance premiums to maintain coverage. Failure to make required payments could result in a loss of benefits under the terms of their plans.
The department’s announcement does not indicate an immediate termination of existing policies.
Mending Health to Exit Oklahoma Insurance Marketplace by December 31
The conservatorship comes as Mending Health prepares to leave Oklahoma’s health insurance marketplace.
On June 25, 2026, the company notified the Oklahoma Insurance Department that it would withdraw from the state’s marketplace effective December 31, 2026.
As a result, Mending Health policies will not be available for purchase or renewal during the open enrollment period for the 2027 plan year.
State and Federal Officials Coordinate Coverage Transition
The Oklahoma Insurance Department is working with the federal Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO) to help affected members obtain alternative health insurance coverage.
The coordination is intended to support consumers during the annual open enrollment process, when individuals and families can compare available health plans and select coverage for the following year.
Members currently insured through Mending Health will need to explore replacement coverage options for 2027 because their existing plans will not be eligible for renewal.
Consumers should review available health insurance options, including premiums, provider networks, deductibles and other out-of-pocket expenses, before selecting a new plan.
Healthcare Providers Must Continue Serving Mending Health Members
The Oklahoma Insurance Department also emphasized that healthcare providers must continue treating individuals covered by Mending Health.
Providers should not demand additional payments from members beyond the applicable cost-sharing amounts established under their health insurance policies.
These costs may include authorized copayments, coinsurance or deductibles associated with covered medical services.
The directive is intended to help ensure that members continue receiving healthcare services while the company remains under state supervision.

Oklahoma Regulators Focus on Protecting Health Insurance Coverage
The decision to place Mending Health into conservatorship represents a significant regulatory intervention aimed at addressing the company’s financial difficulties while protecting its Oklahoma members.
Although existing policies remain active for now, the insurer’s planned departure from the marketplace means affected consumers must prepare to secure new coverage for 2027.
State officials will continue overseeing the company’s operations and coordinating with federal regulators as the transition moves forward, with consumer protection remaining the central priority.
