The Asturias Science and Innovation Fair is back

Friday afternoon and no plan? Well, stop by the cannon workshop of the Armas de la Vega Factory, in Oviedo, and discover a selection of the best scientific and technical innovations and research originating in the principality. There, the second edition of the Asturias Science and Innovation Fair is being held today, an event organized by the Ministry of Science, Business, Training and Employment in cooperation with the Sekuens Agency and FICYT, which opens its doors to the general public between 4:00 pm and 7:30 pm, with free entry after collecting tickets at www. sekuens.es. In the morning, entry will only be to participating educational centers in the emirate.

Nearly 70 platforms with innovative topics and projects. The event is organized around seventy platforms and spaces where companies, laboratories, bodies, entrepreneurs and educational centers display their work, projects and developments. In addition to the organizers and participants, the exhibition has cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, Cogersa and Caja Rural de Asturias Foundation, as well as the sponsorship of the Asturias Health Transport Foundation, the container company BullBox, and the Asturiana de Asturias Federation. Concejos (FACC), through the Network of Councils with Science, the European Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center (CEEI) and the Oviedo City Council.

Various projects

The types of projects that can be considered are very diverse, with a broad presence of mobile applications, artificial intelligence, 5G, robotics, augmented reality, clean energy, space technologies, improvements applied to agriculture and food, or microalgae. , nanomaterials, or research in the field of genetics. The visit is completed by three thematic exhibitions, one from CINN entitled “Museum of the 3D World”, another about Ramón y Cajal entitled “The Year of Cajal: The Vision of Asturias”, and a third exhibition from Councils with Science, “Everyday Science”.

A diverse catalog of activities, meetings and workshops. In addition to the exhibition, the day is nourished by a diverse program of activities, workshops, conferences and meetings for all audiences. From languages ​​and methods of communication, to projects and escape rooms related to research, to robotics and artificial intelligence workshops or even a conference on scientific myths and reality. At 4:30 p.m., the Asturian freestyle player Gazir, an expert in improvisational rap and style and a physics student at the University of Oviedo, will participate. Spanish champion of cockfights, combines two areas of his life in the show “Improvisa con Ciencia”.

Workshops and activities

During the afternoon, workshops and activities such as the “Steam” Disconnecting project, a family board game dedicated to creating research projects at all stages, are held. The scientific publishing project “Allande Stars”, born in 2020 as a result of the work of astrophysicist Lucía González Cuesta (Pola de Allande, 1985), also has its place in the Caja Rural Foundation platform. The travel initiative seeks to spread the most wonderful things related to the universe while revitalizing rural areas and highlighting the environment, culture and heritage through its relationship with astronomy.

The “In Search of Incredible Carbon” escape room, designed by INCAR-CSIC, confronts participants with a series of logical challenges related to the daily work of the scientists of this Asturian laboratory. Painter María Isabel González Díaz presents in a workshop distributed to all audiences “The Science of Drawing”. Another workshop, entitled “Build Your Own Escornabot Robot” (with limited places), seeks to awaken interest in robotics among young people.

IUOPA researcher and Asturian TikToker Alba Moran Álvarez (@waytounderstand) presents a conference entitled “What is cancer? TikTok may have the answer.” The 2nd Asturias Science and Innovation Fair will conclude with a clarinet and percussion concert by the professional music institute “Anselmo González del Valle”, with a showcase of some of the best soundtracks in the history of cinema.
