The Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS) has opened a limited-duration online merchandise store for its members, aiming to boost seasonal revenues while raising awareness of its long-standing cultural mission. The online shop, available only until Monday, 8 December, forms part of a wider strategy to enhance engagement and generate funding for the preservation of Oklahoma’s historical assets.

Branded Apparel Offered in Partnership with Local Supplier

Developed in collaboration with the Oklahoma Shirt Company, the members-only store features a curated range of apparel branded with the OHS identity. The collection includes stylish tees, sweatshirts, hoodies and beanies, with prices starting at $20 and multiple size options available. The Society has confirmed that all items purchased within the order window will be shipped in time for Christmas.

OHS emphasised its intention to provide high-quality merchandise that reflects supporters’ connection to the institution’s work. “We are partnering with the Oklahoma Shirt Company to connect you with quality items that say to the world you are a supporter of Oklahoma Historical Society and the rich collection of stories and legacies that we gather,” the organisation stated.

New Designs Aim to Strengthen Member Engagement

This year’s selection includes apparel featuring a four-part square window design arranged in alternating patterns. Additionally, OHS is offering three olive-coloured beanies embroidered with the organisation’s logo. With limited quantities and a short ordering period, the Society has urged members to act quickly, repeating calls to “Order today!” and “Order by Monday, December 8!”

Holiday retail initiatives have become increasingly common among cultural institutions, and OHS’s campaign reflects a broader sector trend of leveraging merchandise to reinforce member loyalty and diversify fundraising channels.

Proceeds Support OHS’s Mission to Preserve State History

In launching the online shop, the Society has reiterated its commitment to historical preservation and the essential role supporters play in maintaining its operations. OHS highlighted the breadth of its work across exhibitions, archives, educational field trips, historic preservation, publications and online resources. “As we continue to collect, preserve, and share, it is crucial that every person who views our exhibits, explores our archives, experiences a field trip, engages with historic preservation, enjoys our publications, discovers history on our website, or visits an OHS museum or historic site understands their experience was made possible by the OHS and its supporters,” the organisation stated.

All proceeds from the holiday store directly support the Society’s mission “to collect, preserve, and share the history of the state.” By presenting merchandise as both a fundraising tool and a public symbol of support, OHS aims to strengthen community ties while sustaining its long-term preservation efforts.

Partnership with Local Business Highlights Economic Collaboration

The partnership with Oklahoma Shirt Company also demonstrates OHS’s commitment to working with local businesses. Such collaborations enable heritage organisations to extend their reach while contributing to regional economic activity. For members, the merchandise offers a tangible way to promote OHS within their communities while supporting the institution’s financial stability.

Deadline Approaches as Organisation Encourages Early Orders

With the Monday, 8 December deadline fast approaching, OHS continues to encourage prompt ordering to guarantee product availability and timely Christmas delivery. The strong calls to action underscore the importance of this seasonal sales period to the Society’s annual fundraising calendar.

The launch of the exclusive merchandise store reflects the Oklahoma Historical Society’s ongoing emphasis on community engagement, operational sustainability and the preservation of the state’s historical record. Through this initiative, the Society is seeking to deepen its connection to members while reinforcing the value of its work across Oklahoma.
