The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics has appointed Laura Rudicel as its new Director of Communications and Marketing, strengthening the agency’s leadership team as Oklahoma continues to expand its aerospace and defence industry profile.
Based in Oklahoma City, the agency confirmed that Rudicel will oversee strategic communications, media relations, digital platforms, marketing initiatives, and broader public engagement efforts designed to support the state’s growing aerospace sector.
The appointment comes at a time when Oklahoma is seeking to further position itself as a key centre for aerospace, aviation, and defence investment in the United States, with state agencies and private operators increasingly focused on workforce development, infrastructure expansion, and industry promotion.
An award-winning communications strategist, Rudicel brings extensive experience in branding, media engagement, and public-facing campaigns across a range of sectors in Oklahoma. Her background includes leadership roles focused on tourism promotion, destination marketing, and high-profile launch communications.
Prior to joining the aerospace department, Rudicel served as Director of Marketing at OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark, where she played a leading role in the communications strategy surrounding the resort’s launch. During her tenure, the development attracted national media attention and established itself as a significant addition to Oklahoma’s tourism offering.
According to the agency, Rudicel’s responsibilities at ODAA will include managing strategic marketing campaigns and strengthening public awareness surrounding Oklahoma’s aerospace and defence capabilities. She will also oversee communications initiatives designed to support engagement with industry stakeholders, government partners, educational institutions, and the wider public.
The aerospace sector remains one of Oklahoma’s most economically significant industries, contributing substantially to employment and business investment across the state. Officials have increasingly focused on promoting Oklahoma as a destination for aerospace manufacturing, military aviation support, maintenance operations, and emerging aviation technologies.
Industry analysts note that effective communications and public engagement strategies are becoming increasingly important for state agencies seeking to compete for investment, attract skilled talent, and support long-term sector growth. Marketing leadership roles within public agencies are also evolving as organisations place greater emphasis on digital communications, stakeholder visibility, and national media outreach.
Rudicel’s appointment reflects a broader effort by the department to strengthen its external communications capabilities while supporting Oklahoma’s ambitions within the aerospace and defence markets.
In its announcement, the agency said Rudicel “brings extensive experience leading high-profile brand, media, and public engagement initiatives across Oklahoma.”
The department also highlighted her recent experience at OKANA, where she “helped lead communications strategies surrounding the resort’s opening, securing national media coverage and helping establish OKANA as a premier tourism destination.”
Officials added that Rudicel “will oversee strategic marketing and communications, media relations, digital platforms, and public engagement efforts supporting Oklahoma’s growing aerospace and defense industry.”
The Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics plays a central role in supporting aviation and aerospace development throughout the state, working with public and private stakeholders on infrastructure projects, economic development initiatives, and workforce programmes.
Rudicel’s appointment is expected to support the agency’s efforts to further raise the profile of Oklahoma’s aerospace sector nationally and strengthen engagement with industry partners at a time of continued investment and expansion across the market.
