The Secretary of State for Health, Silvia Calzon, presided over the award ceremony, in Madrid, for the second edition of the Dr. Juan Abarca International Prize for Medical Sciences, “Covers Award‘, awarded to Professor Philip J.
Silvia Calzon, who congratulated the aforementioned microbiologist and Director of the Microbial Molecular Pathogens Unit at the Pasteur Institute Research Center in France, and the Abarca family on this initiative, highlighted Dr. Juan Abarca’s values throughout his career.
In addition, Calzone highlighted the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors, as it “acted as a containment dam in the worst moments of the pandemic.” Besides her, more than 130 representatives of the general community, science, research and health administration of Spain attended.
