New York-based songwriter Christopher Ardra is set to release his second solo album, Saw It In A Dream, on 5 June, marking a significant step forward in his independent recording career. The launch will be preceded this Thursday by the release of the album’s third single, “Colors”, accompanied by a self-directed video featuring a dance performance by Sylvana Tapia.
The upcoming record underscores Ardra’s continued commitment to a fully independent production model. Operating from his home studio on Long Island, the artist writes, records, produces and engineers his material, while also performing the majority of instrumental parts. On the new album, he contributes guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion and drum programming, supported by a select group of collaborators providing backing vocals, drums and brass.
The second single, “Reasons”, holds particular significance within the project. It was the first track Ardra composed following the dissolution of his long-running band, Station, and represents a turning point both personally and creatively. The track’s measured, melodic structure and accessible chorus contrast with the speed of its creation, which Ardra has described as almost immediate, signalling a shift in his songwriting approach.

“It’s more of a complete thought than my debut. It’s a conversation, and when I get to the end of that conversation, it’s cathartic and feels resolved,” mulled Ardra. “While it’s definitely rock with pop elements, I think of it as more of an album that you sit and listen to.”
This emphasis on cohesion reflects a broader trend among independent artists seeking to differentiate themselves in a singles-driven market by delivering full-length projects with conceptual depth.

“You saw it in a dream, but you have to figure out if it’s your dream or someone else’s,” Ardra continued. “Am I doing something for myself because it’s actually something that I want or am I just reacting to something and thus doing something that someone else thinks is a good idea?”
