Vitacca Ballet, one of Houston’s most dynamic contemporary ballet companies, is preparing to debut its latest choreographic platform, Creation House 2, on 6 and 7 November 2025. The two-night event, to be staged at House of Miracles (301 Adams Street, Houston, TX), will feature six world premieres by company artists and promises to showcase an innovative blend of classical precision and contemporary artistry.
The production marks the return of Vitacca Ballet’s acclaimed “Creation House” series—an annual incubator designed to nurture the creative development of its company dancers. Through this platform, performers step into the dual role of choreographer and artist, presenting original works that reflect their individual voices and artistic evolution.
A Platform for Emerging Creative Voices
Under the direction of Artistic Director Kelly Ann Vitacca, Creation House 2 is described as an “intimate and unique” experience that brings audiences closer to the creative process. The performances aim to spotlight the diversity and imagination of the company’s ensemble while contributing to Houston’s rapidly growing performing arts scene.
This year’s choreographers represent an accomplished cross-section of the Vitacca Ballet company. They include:
-
Aidan Kohles-Wolf, a three-year company member and former artist with Complexions Ballet Company
-
Maddie Medina, a five-year veteran, Julliard alumna, and Vitacca Dance alumna
-
Joshua Ponton, a four-year artist recognised in Pointe Magazine’s 2023 Standout Performance list
-
Khen Kurulkar, a five-year company artist and former Israeli international performer
-
Nikolas Darrough, in his third season with Vitacca and formerly of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts
-
Ava Dempster, also a three-year artist and former Washington Ballet trainee
Each artist will unveil an original choreographic work, combining contemporary ballet language with personal narratives and distinct movement vocabularies. The result will be a six-part evening that Vitacca Ballet describes as “fresh and diverse,” offering patrons a rare opportunity to experience creativity as it unfolds.

Recognition and Impact
Vitacca Ballet has earned a growing reputation for artistic excellence and innovation. Following its recent performance at Miller Outdoor Theatre, Houston Style Magazine noted:
“Fresh off its electrifying Miller Outdoor Theater performance and 2024 title as ‘Best Dance Show’ by Texas Arts & Culture Magazine, Vitacca Ballet is more than just a dance company—it’s a movement. With its fearless blend of classical technique and contemporary storytelling, Vitacca is redefining ballet for the next generation.”
This recognition underscores Vitacca Ballet’s expanding influence within and beyond the United States. Its approach—merging technical discipline with emotional narrative—has positioned the company at the forefront of contemporary ballet’s evolution.
A Vision for Artistic Growth
Artistic Director Kelly Ann Vitacca emphasised the company’s commitment to cultivating creativity and community engagement through Creation House 2.
“We are thrilled to spotlight the creative voices of Vitacca Ballet Artists and further enrich Houston’s dynamic arts community through Creation House 2. CH2 offers an inviting opportunity for patrons to experience and engage with the artistic process in an intimate, one-of-a-kind setting. We look forward to unveiling Vitacca’s evolving artistic voice and continuing to build lasting connections within our city and beyond.”
Vitacca’s statement reflects the company’s broader mission—to drive artistic innovation while fostering meaningful cultural dialogue. The initiative aligns with a global trend among performing arts organisations seeking to empower artists as creators and collaborators, rather than solely interpreters of choreography.
Looking Ahead
For audiences and investors alike, Creation House 2 represents a compelling example of how independent arts companies can blend creativity with sustainability. By developing in-house talent and producing original works, Vitacca Ballet continues to strengthen its brand identity and cultural value within Houston’s thriving arts economy.
Driven by creation and community, the company describes its work as offering “a progressive ballet lens” to a diverse network of artists and patrons. With Creation House 2, Vitacca Ballet aims not only to entertain but to inspire—reminding audiences that innovation in the arts often begins from within.
