The city of Florina, located in northern Greece, recorded minus 20 degrees Celsius on Friday morning, despite residents experiencing hot weather and temperatures above 20 degrees the previous day, the DPA reported, citing AirPress. Other regions also recorded temperatures below zero degrees Celsius.
The cold weather forecast is set to head south over the weekend, with meteorologists predicting that this will be the first time long-term temperatures near zero in the capital, Athens.
However, higher temperatures are expected next week.
Last week, a heat wave with a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius went out to the beach or parks in large numbers beyond the control of the Greeks on Sunday.
According to the National Laboratory in Athens, the temperature in Sania on the southern island of Crete reached 28.3 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, the highest temperature recorded in January in the last 50 years. At that time, Hurricane Plomina caused major problems in Spain, which experienced the heaviest snowfall in decades.
