Wal-Mart has been sued for firing a worker with an intestinal disease

The United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart accusing it of illegally firing a North Carolina store worker. who have suffered from Crohn’s disease.

Crohn’s disease is a chronic condition that causes inflammation of the digestive system and can lead to symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, fatigue, and weight loss.

This disease affects the intestinal tract and can cause a series of disturbing and debilitating symptoms.

The lawsuit, filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), says Walmart should not have fired the worker, named Adrian Tucker, in April 2017 because doing so violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.. This is because the reason for her release was her absence without permission in the six months preceding the dismissal.

However, those absences included visits to emergency rooms and even hospitalizations, Reuters reported.

Walmart said that this absence violated its attendance and punctuality policy.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in Charlotte, North Carolina, Wal-Mart did not excuse the worker for several absences, although she did give them medical notes.

In addition, the company refused to transfer her to a job closer to the restroom, to which she had to go periodically due to her illness.

Tucker worked at Wal-Mart in Statesville, North Carolina, for three years before being laid off. During that time, she handled customer service, prepared food, did the cleaning and washed the dishes, and also lifted boxes of chicken up to 50 pounds (23 kg).
