Velma from Scooby-Doo is officially a lesbian

It’s an open secret, but it’s finally official, the character Velma from Scooby-Doo is a lesbian and director Addie Harrison reveals it in a new special. Halloween“Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!”.

In the film, the mastermind (voiced by Kate Micucci) falls in love with Coco Diablo (Myrna Velasco), the aforementioned head of a notorious crime syndicate, much to the delight of Scooby-Doo fans.

Footage of a nervous Velma is going viral on Twitter. In one scene, Daphne (Gray Griffin) teases her fellow mystery solver about an apparent crush. “I didn’t know convicted felons were your type,” he jokes. A perplexed Velma exclaimed, “Oh, who am I kidding? I’m smashing, Daphne!”

Series producer Tony Cervone also confirmed Velma’s sexuality on his Instagram.

“Obviously I don’t represent all versions of Velma Dingley, but I’m one of the main people who represents this,” she shared on Instagram. “Ten years ago we made our intentions as clear as we could. Most fans understood. For those who didn’t, I suggest you take a closer look. There’s no new news here.”
