If you are a beneficiary Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as “food stamps,” we tell you what the first week of January 2024 payment round will be.

Eligibility for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits depends on each state's poverty level, income and needs.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is responsible for disbursing the funds, but states manage the designated budgets, so local governments decide the best way to deposit money to families.

What is the Snap scheme?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, helps people with low income and financial resources purchase nutritious foods.

It is the largest federal nutrition assistance program, administered by the United States Department of Agriculture, but administered by state agencies through local offices. It is offered in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Payments are made by Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, which is accepted as a debit card at supermarkets and farmers markets, even by some online retailers.
