PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Maxwell Football Club (MFC) has announced the launch of its Women’s Collegiate Flag Football Player of the Year award, creating a new national honor that will recognize the top student-athlete in collegiate flag football. The initiative expands the organization’s commitment to supporting girls’ and women’s flag football while highlighting the sport’s continued growth at the college level.
The new award builds on the success of the Maxwell Football Club’s Girls National Flag Football Player of the Year award, which has recognized the nation’s top high school players since 2024. By extending its recognition to collegiate athletes, the Club aims to celebrate the achievements of student-athletes who continue to excel both on the field and in the classroom.
“Flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and nowhere is that growth more exciting than at the collegiate level,” said Mark Wolpert, Executive Director of the Maxwell Football Club.
“For years, the Maxwell Football Club has been proud to celebrate the young women pioneering this game in high school, and now we have the opportunity to follow their journey to campus and recognize the student-athletes elevating the sport in college.
We’re honored to give these outstanding athletes the platform they deserve.”
According to the Club, the Women’s Collegiate Flag Football Player of the Year award will be presented annually to a student-athlete who demonstrates excellence in athletic performance, academic achievement, and leadership on and off the field. The recipient will be selected by a national panel of collegiate coaches and leading athletic administrators.
The winner will be announced as part of the Maxwell Awards, one of the premier annual events recognizing accomplishments across high school, collegiate, and professional football. The organization said additional information regarding nominations and eligibility requirements will be released in the coming months.
The announcement comes as collegiate flag football continues to gain momentum nationwide. Increased participation, growing institutional support, and the sport’s recent designation as an official NCAA Emerging Sport for Women have accelerated opportunities for athletes and schools alike. The Maxwell Football Club said the creation of the new award reflects its commitment to supporting that progress.
Since introducing the Girls National Flag Football Player of the Year award, the Club has worked with NFL clubs across the country to identify and recognize standout high school athletes. In addition, its regional Mini Max Awards have honored dozens of young women who have helped establish and grow the sport at the high school level.
The new collegiate award extends that pathway by recognizing athletes who continue to distinguish themselves after entering college. Beyond athletic success, the selection process emphasizes academic excellence and leadership, highlighting student-athletes who make meaningful contributions both on and off the field.
Founded in 1935, the Maxwell Football Club is the oldest football organization of its kind in the United States. The organization is known for presenting several of the sport’s most respected honors, including the Maxwell Award for College Player of the Year, the Chuck Bednarik Award for Outstanding College Defensive Player, and the Bert Bell Award for Outstanding Professional Player.
Over the decades, the Club has recognized excellence across high school, collegiate, and professional football while supporting initiatives that strengthen communities connected to the sport. The addition of the Women’s Collegiate Flag Football Player of the Year award further expands that mission by recognizing the athletes helping shape the future of collegiate flag football as the sport continues its rapid growth.
