(CNN) — Mark Zuckerberg responded to memes mocking the graphics of Meta’s latest project by changing his selfie to listen to his critics.

Zuckerberg unveiled Horizon Worlds, a virtual reality social app in France and Spain earlier this week, sharing a somewhat flat and goofy digital avatar in front of an animated Eiffel Tower and Sagrada Familia.

The internet immediately jumped on the bandwagon, with many users mocking what they saw as (hopefully) initial graphics for a startup that had spent the meta. At least $10 billion In the past year.

New York Times tech columnist Kevin Rouse on Twitter compared the charts “Worse than the 2008 wii gameSlate used the term “buttcheeks.” Twitter was less kind: “mind-blowing ugliness” and “international laughing stock.” Many compared it to early 90s graphics, noting how lifeless and childish the selfie looked. Zuckerberg quickly earned the nickname “Dead Eyes.”

Well, apparently Zuckerberg saw the memes, because on Friday he announced that major updates are coming with new avatar graphics. On Facebook and Instagram, Zuckerberg posted a photo of his much-improved-looking avatar.

“I know the photo I posted earlier this week was very basic – it was taken very quickly to celebrate a release.” Zuckerberg wrote In the title, it added that the graphics in Horizon “could do a lot more” and that it was “improving much faster”.

Zuckerberg said he would share more details at Connect’s annual conference in October last year.

Facebook plans to spend at least $10 billion in Reality Labs by 2021, devoting significant resources to its virtual and augmented reality products and services in last year’s third-quarter results.
