In the Copa America, Conmepolo has not beaten rivals since the 2001 edition of Ecuador Colombia | Football | Sports

In the last 24 games, including 2021 in Brazil, the trio have three wins, two of them against the Confederations Cup.

In Colombia, Ecuador has not been able to beat rivals in the Copa America since the 2001 edition. While the victory against Venezuela had already been celebrated, this Sunday, Ronald Hernandez turned the celebration into a bitter one, scoring an extra few minutes to make the tie at 2pm at the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium, the second presentation of the Brazil 2021 team in the tricolor.

La Troy lost 1-0 to Colombia in the current match and recovered one of the six possible units in the South American Championship, which was traditionally suffocating. Negative records do not stop accumulating for national football (for example, playing under the Copa America team format, it only qualified for the next round three times between the 1975 and 2019 editions). It has now been 20 years since they were able to impose themselves on the region and teams since 2001, so far in 2021 matches, they have won just three games.

In Colombia, two decades ago, the national team lost to Chile (4-1) and hosts (1-0). He could not go into the second round, but he left the tournament today as his last victory against a South American opponent in the Copa America. At the time he had beaten Laneros 4-0 (a double from Angel Fernandez, Edison Mendes and Auguston Delcado).

Peru did not go beyond the Ecuadorian group stage in 2004, losing 6–1 to Argentina, 2–1 against Uruguay, and exiting without adding units after a 2–1 defeat against the strongest of the Confederations delegates. The worst series continued when Venezuela submitted in 2007 to Chile (3-2), Mexico (2-1) and Brazil (1-0).

In 2011, Argentina had a draw against Venezuela (1-0) and Brazil (4-2), and a draw against Paraguay (0-0), with two defeats and a negative trend. In Group A, in the 2015 Copa America in Chile, La Tri was defeated by homeowners (2-0) and Bolivia (3-2) and finally managed to win after a fourteen-year wait. But he did not beat a Conmepol team, but Mexico (2-1). As usual, Ecuador did not go beyond the group stage.

In the United States 2016, the so-called Copa America Centenario, the national team staged a draw against Brazil, finishing 2nd with Peru and winning the tournament again, but again the victim came from the CONCACAF: the weakest were the Confederates’ guests: Haiti (4-0). Tickets for the next round were obtained, but the venue put an end to Ecuador’s dreams.

In Brazil 2019, in the main C, the tricolor tied Uruguay (4-0), Chile (2-1) and Japan (1-1). Yes, in fact, Ecuador only played to the team level. In short, Ecuador have three wins in 24 games played, including a pair of ongoing Copa America duties (one in 2001, one in 2015 and the rest in 2016). (D)
