Akatzen Benítez, Mexican Awarded NASA Scholarship for Space Education | News from Mexico

Acatzin Benítez Salgado, a 21-year-old student from Tejupilco, State of Mexico, has been selected with 100 young people from around the world to become a space teacher.

The man traveled from Mexico to NASA for a week and said he had extensive training to publish the space study.

Milenio notes that a biomedical engineering student at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMex) is in his final year and has had the opportunity to participate in other procedures related to space and the health of the ship’s crew.

Acatzin also has experience with a similar mission to Mars, that is, a simulation of a manned flight that allows the vital signs of travelers to be monitored.

Within his experiment, a similar mission to Benitez “bound to Mars” in 2021, an exercise conducted in Mojave, California, was intended to study the long-term physiological and psychological stress of astronauts.

Also, he did a research project to analyze variation in heart rate. With this information, the mats and cardiovascular risk indicators for the crew members were obtained.

His work as a space educator has thought to bring children and young adults closer, so that they realize from kindergarten, primary school, secondary school or high school that they can join the sector.

In May, the young man will go to the UK to receive additional training that will allow him to work with other engineers on his first similar assignment in that country.
