The US Congress will establish the Commission on Central American Affairs

The U.S. Congress will open a body to discuss issues in the region, amid persistent indications that they will be determined to reduce the spread of news about Central America and reduce corruption and abuse of power at Isthmus.

Norma Torres, a Democratic legislator of Guatemala descent, tweeted this Wednesday: “(Missouri Republican Congresswoman) Ann Wagner and I are pleased to announce the resumption of the Central American Caucus in this Congress.”

A Caucasus is a group of congressmen who meet to achieve precisely specific legislative goals.

In this case, the aim seems to be to better address the US relationship with Aitmas, which seeks to reduce irregular migration by attacking its main causes: lack of opportunities, insecurity, corruption and the lack of democratic institutions.

Congresswoman Torres added, “The Caucasus has helped legislators understand the challenges in Central America, and how we can help the rule of law, security and economic development.”

This is in line with the strengthened interest of the administration of President Joe Biden, who has sent a strong message through some of its officials: Central America – especially the Northern Triangle – is one of its key foreign policy priorities, and focus on the Isthmus they provide and its democratic strengthening.

For this reason, the US President recently appointed a special envoy for the Northern Triangle (a subdivision covering Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador). Experienced diplomat Ricardo Zika will oversee the fight against corruption and efforts to reduce illegal immigration to these countries.
