The Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy will mark a leadership milestone this month with a fundraising reception supporting its Kid Governor® Program, while recognizing CEO Joe Dorman’s 10 years at the helm of the organization.
The event will be held Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. at Rococo Western, located at 4308 N. Western Ave. in Oklahoma City. Proceeds from the reception will benefit the Kid Governor® Program, one of OICA’s initiatives focused on introducing young Oklahomans to civic participation and leadership.
The gathering will also recognize several personal and professional milestones for Dorman, including his 56th birthday and his selection as one of “55 Over 55 Inspiring Oklahomans.”
Fundraiser Supports OICA’s Kid Governor Program
OICA is using Dorman’s anniversary celebration as an opportunity to generate additional financial support for the Kid Governor® Program.
The organization said the program is a priority for Dorman and described increased support for the initiative as his birthday wish. Both proceeds from the Oklahoma City reception and donations from supporters who cannot attend will be directed toward the program.
The Kid Governor® Program provides an avenue for young students to learn more about government, elections, public service and civic responsibility. Through the initiative, participating children can gain firsthand exposure to democratic processes and consider how they can contribute to their schools and communities.
For OICA, connecting Dorman’s anniversary with the fundraiser brings together two parts of the organization’s work: recognizing long-term leadership while investing in programs designed to engage Oklahoma’s next generation.
Joe Dorman Reaches 10 Years as OICA CEO
Dorman’s decade as CEO represents a significant organizational milestone for OICA, which advocates on issues affecting children and families across Oklahoma.
During his tenure, Dorman has served as a public representative for the organization and its efforts to promote policies and programs aimed at improving outcomes for children. His anniversary reception provides OICA with an opportunity to recognize that work while keeping the event centered on fundraising for one of its youth-focused programs.
The celebration will also acknowledge Dorman’s inclusion among the “55 Over 55 Inspiring Oklahomans.” The recognition, combined with his 56th birthday and 10th anniversary as CEO, gives the organization several milestones to commemorate during the reception.
Rather than holding the event solely as an anniversary celebration, OICA is directing the occasion toward supporting the Kid Governor® Program and encouraging attendees and other supporters to contribute.
Oklahoma City Reception Combines Celebration and Fundraising
Rococo Western will host the reception at its North Western Avenue location in Oklahoma City. OICA is encouraging supporters of the organization, its programs and Dorman’s leadership to participate in the event.
Those unable to attend can still contribute financially to the Kid Governor® Program through donations, according to the organization. OICA emphasized that funds raised through the celebration will directly support the initiative.
The fundraiser comes as nonprofit organizations continue to rely on community contributions and special events to sustain educational and advocacy programs. For OICA, the reception provides an opportunity to draw attention to youth civic engagement while celebrating a decade of organizational leadership.
Dorman’s 10th anniversary at OICA will therefore serve as more than a personal milestone. By directing proceeds to the Kid Governor® Program, the organization is using the occasion to support its broader work with Oklahoma children and encourage greater civic participation among young people.
