The Socialist Parliamentary Group has presented a Proposal No of Law (NLP) on the implementation of measures for the recognition and visibility of women in science, especially the work carried out by scientists in the Islands, approved unanimously yesterday in the parliamentary committee on Education, Universities, Culture and Sports.
The proposal, promoted by the socialist regional deputy Matilde Fleitas, representative for the island of La Palma, urges the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands to promote and coordinate the necessary procedure so that in non-university educational centers in The Islands develop a program of knowledge of the figure of women in science, as well as develop actions to promote the scientific and technological vocation among girls and young people.
The initiative also asks the Ministry to formalize collaboration agreements and / or agreements with the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias and the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias, in order to disseminate the scientific and technological work developed in the Archipelago in general, and in particular , about women who carry out the tasks of their professional careers in these fields.
From the PSOE they recall that the educators of the Canary Islands are carrying out “incessant and tireless” work in this regard, but that precisely for this reason they must have the necessary help, both in support of technical, human and economic means. Similarly, they point out that of the 1,300 non-university educational centers, only about 90 centers are attached to the Ada (European Social Fund) and Diana (Ministry of Equality) programs, where the presence of girls and young people in careers is encouraged technologies, advocating for the breakdown of gender stereotypes, and in which it is also promoted that in the educational field the interest of girls and young women in the technological branches of study is promoted, especially in the field of ICT.
The socialist proposal also advocates strengthening both participation in this type of programs, as well as the promotion by the Autonomous Council of Education of the initiatives to be carried out in the public and subsidized centers present in the Canary Islands, on the visibility of women from and in science and the promotion of the participation of girls and young people in the areas of knowledge of science and technology.
