Havana, February 3 (Prenza Latina) Cuba's Meteorological Institute (Insmet) today issued a special warning number, indicating the possibility of rain, thunderstorms, moderately strong winds and coastal flooding starting this Sunday.

An extratropical depression in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico will move eastward and deepen rapidly as it approaches the Florida peninsula, according to the advisory issued at 1:30 p.m. local time.

The system will be accompanied by widespread frontal cloudiness with rain activity, showers and thunderstorms, which will affect the western part of the island tomorrow, Sunday, extending towards the central part in the afternoon and evening. Towards the Orient.

A warning for the possibility of severe localized storms as the system moves in isolation.

Insmet warns that from Sunday morning, some strong winds will blow from the south, with gusts of 25 to 40 kilometers per hour in the western and central regions.

This situation may cause mild coastal flooding in the low-lying areas of the southern coast of western Cuba, which will then extend along the southern coast of the center and east, mainly in the Gulfs of Ana Maria and Guacanayapo.

In addition, a new cold front will form in the central Gulf of Mexico on Monday, and as it moves eastward it will affect the western and central parts of Cuba, bringing rain, showers and somewhat strong winds. A direction between west and northwest.

Strong swells will occur along the northwest and central coasts, which may produce mild to moderate coastal flooding in low-lying areas of the northwest coast, including Havana Beach.
