KANSAS CITY, Missouri — The Kansas City Royals placed star catcher Salvador Perez on the seven-day list with a concussion on Monday, two days after Venezuela had to leave a game against the Houston Astros. “Non-traumatic head impact.”

Kansas City announced the decision ahead of the start of a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. They promoted Tyler Cropley from Triple A to fill Perez’s spot and transferred fellow Venezuelan catcher Freddy Fermin to the 60-day injured list.

Perez was hit in the faceoff by a foul hit by Jose Altuve in the fifth inning of Saturday’s game against Houston. The impact caused the mask to come off and the catcher initially told Royals coach Kyle Turner he was fine. But during the latter transition, referee John Lipka bent down to look at Perez, who was beginning to feel dizzy.

That’s when Turner and Royals manager Matt Cuatroro decided to reexamine him and pull him out of the game.

“As a protocol, if there’s a blow to the head, you should follow up with a concussion specialist the next day,” Cuatraro said. “During the tests, he suffered a mild shock.”

Cuatraro said Perez, who is hitting .252 with 21 home runs and 72 RBIs, was not considered to finish the season.

But considering the club woke up with a 48-102 record, and five more losses that would set them up for the worst season in its history, the 33-year-old receiver won’t be back for the rest. Propaganda.

After the series against the Guardians, the Royals will play three games in Houston and another three in Detroit before concluding with three games against the New York Yankees at Kauffman Stadium.

“I hope he comes back,” Cuadraro said. “Since he has shown signs, we have a protocol. I always remember that he can come back at the first possible minute. There is no point in me stopping him. I want him to come back.”
