3M invites children to learn programming for free – Science – Life

3M announced the launch of its program Tech beginnersan initiative that seeks to provide basic knowledge of programming to children and youth from 9 to 12 years old in Colombia and the rest of the Andean region.

Through this program, attendees will be able to take programming courses taught by the Academy of Computer Science, Crack The Code, for a period of 5 months. In addition, the program includes mentoring for participants by 3 million employees. We tell you how you can participate:

Interested parties should go to 3M Tech Beginners (crackthecode.la) Complete the form, as well as share why they want to compete, and by drawing answer the question: How do you imagine technology will improve life in the future? The deadline to complete the application process is before June 15th.

This 3M initiative aligns with recent findings from the sixth edition of the Case Study of Science (SoSi), which the company has implemented in 17 countries in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania, including Colombia. A study revealed that Latin Americans are likely to face barriers to STEM education, as a result of how little promotion and access these areas have in these countries.

In Colombia, the study revealed that 87 percent of people trust science and 81 percent trust those who practice it. In addition, 69 percent of those surveyed in the country considered science important in their daily lives, a relevant proportion higher than the global average (52 percent).

About the programme, 3M Andean Communications and Branding Director Juan Noriega commented that “Technology beginners are born to understand the importance of promoting knowledge of science and technology for new generations from childhood and youth. It can and must be faced with their future choice of a professional career.”
