The III edition of the camps “Starting”, Driven by the University of Navarra Science Museum, has brought together during the summer more than 300 boys and girls of the entire Autonomous Community between 3 and 12 years old.

The camps of chemistry started in the last weeks of June and the participants were able to carry out activities related to solid elements, liquids, gases, science in space or in the kitchen. Thus, they were carried out from quicksand drills, detection of fingerprints with iodine, writing of secret messages, observation of physical properties, elaboration of a volcano and a homemade extinguisher, “slime”, rockets or spherifications. In addition, in the last week of August a camp on chemistry was also held in collaboration with the Navarra Association of High Capacities (ANAC).

Schoolchildren have been able to measure water quality and explore the fauna and flora of the Sadar River, study birds, sow seeds, view animals with a magnifying glass, make crystals with salt, create a weather vane, learn to make recycled paper, and other dynamic activities. as the treasure hunt, yincanas and “Land Art”, among many.

ENCOURAGE NEW SCIENTIFIC VOCATIONS

One of the monitors, Beatriz Arce, graduated and doctor in Chemistry from the University of Navarra, has highlighted the learning of children in this space for the dissemination of science. “The balance of the camps is very positive. The students have come out with a high knowledge about science and this is, without a doubt, a turning point to foster new scientific vocations ”.
