Reynolds Parade and Jose Thomas Perez oppose increasing PLD political committee membership

Reynolds Parade Perez, general secretary of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), said this Saturday that increasing the membership of the political body would become a “dysfunctional organization”.

“I do not accept that the membership of the political committee of the PLD will be increased to 45, because I do not think it will function properly,” another member of the political committee posted on his Twitter account.

In January, Barrett Perez announced that he would not be re-employed to continue as general secretary of the PLD, and that he should not be considered to continue in office and should only be a member of the Central Committee. To his health he must reduce his political activities.

Yesterday, the organizing commissioner of the PLD’s IX Ordinary Congress, Jose Joaquin Pide Medina, announced that it was deciding on a proposal to amend Section 23 of its laws, which recommended increasing the number of members of its political committee to 45.

“The Political Committee shall consist of the Executive Committee of the Central Committee and the Chairman of the Party, the General Secretary and forty-three (43) full members,” the article establishes.

The political committee currently has 35 members in addition to the party leader and general secretary.
