Pope Francis, Fr. Archbishop Oscar Alvarez of the Archdiocese of San Salvador – Diario La Pagina

The Catholic Church of El Salvador announced this Saturday that Pope Francis has appointed Oscar Alvarez Orellana as auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of San Salvador to assist in the pastoral work of Monsignor Jose Luis Escobar Alas.

Religion is currently rector of the San José de la Montana Major Seminary in San Salvador and has held other important positions within the Church.

Alvarez was born 61 years ago in Villa El Rosario, Morazán, and is a priest of the diocesan clergy of San Salvador. Pope Francis also gave her the title Putensiana.

He was ordained a priest on January 6, 1988. degree in Church History from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy..

He was Vicar of Nuestra Señora de Montserrat Parish, Parish Priest of Nuestra Señora de Dolores Parish, and Immaculate Conception of Mary Parish.

He is Professor of Theology at the Catholic University of El Salvador in Santa Ana, and since 2003 he has also served as Professor of Church History and Patrology and Mariology at San José de la Montana Seminary.

Alvarez will replace Cardinal Gregorio Rosa Chavez, who resigned in October 2022.
