Pastora Bacon, sixth finalist in the 1955 competition

Almost seven decades after her participation, Pastora Bacon, the only Honduran to reach the top 6 of Miss Universe, remains an icon.

In 1955, the Miss Universe pageant held in Long Beach, California saw a historic moment for Honduras. Pastora Pagán Valenzuela, at just 17 years old, managed to qualify as one of the 6 finalists in the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant.

Despite the passage of almost 70 years, Pastora Bacon’s timeless beauty continues to dazzle. At 85, Bacon remains one of the prettiest faces of pageantry’s golden age.

In an interview, the beautiful woman from Sampedrana recalled what it was like to participate in the pageant.

“There was a poll in the newspapers to choose the woman of their choice, one filled out the ballot and sent it to the same newspaper or to some business that participated in choosing the candidate to represent San Pedro Sula in the competition,” he said.

The election of Pastora Bacon as Miss Honduras was the result of a public vote and the decision of the qualifying jury.

After her win, she represented Honduras internationally, participating in pageants such as Miss World in London and Miss Central America and the Caribbean in Colombia.

“The news that Pastora Bacon had achieved this international recognition was known in Honduras a few days later, because communication was not so good, and it was broadcast in short films in theaters, these days the final is broadcast live and everywhere. Color,” he said.

When Pastora Bacon’s name was called among the top 15 of the competition, the woman from Sampedrana couldn’t help but cheer for her and her country.

“Happiness filled me for a long time as many hearts believed in me, at least it didn’t change my life. “I continued to be a loving, approachable person with a smile,” he shared excitedly.

When Miss Universe returned to San Pedro Sula, the city that saw her take off on the world stage, Pastora was greeted with joy and excitement.
