International reactions after Navalny’s conviction: The European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany call on Moscow to release Navalny “immediately and unconditionally”

The United States expressed “deep concern” today, Tuesday, about the prison sentence of more than two years for its Russian opponent Alexei Navalny, calling on Russia to release him “immediately and without conditions,” according to AFP.

“As we work with Russia to defend the interests of the United States, we will work closely with our allies and partners to hold Russia accountable for violating the rights of its citizens,” US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a press release.

The United Kingdom is calling for his immediate release And the unconditional release of Alexei Navalny and all peaceful protesters and journalists arrested in the past two weeks, British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said in a statement that Russia’s “perverted” ruling shows that the country is not fulfilling “the simplest obligations expected of any responsible member of the international community.”

A political dispute is never a crime. We demand his immediate release. Respect for human rights like democratic freedom is not negotiable,” the French president said in a tweet.

Germany also calls for “immediate release.” Navalny.
