Within the framework of the World Science Day for Peace and Development, Industrias Peñoles and Fresnillo plc recognize the importance of promoting scientific research as a trigger for sustainable and cutting-edge mining. And it is that this tool contributes to a better understanding of the world and its transformation for the benefit of societies.

In this sense, Rafael Rebollar, general director of Industrias Peñoles, specified that the company has always encouraged interest in science in children and young people in Mexico through emblematic initiatives such as the international competition FIRST Robotics, in which 23 teams sponsored by both mining companies participate.

For his part, Octavio Alvídrez, CEO of Fresnillo plc, highlighted that there is also close collaboration with the Innovation Association in Science Teaching (Innovec) in order to promote quality science education based on modules such as: “Rocas y Minerales” and, recently, of the COSIP series (Community of Superinvestigators of the Planet), which aims to show families how to take care of themselves against Covid-19.

In addition to this, Industrias Peñoles and Fresnillo plc, have the Laguna del Rey Technical Studies Center (CETLAR) and the Technical Studies Center (CETEF), located in Coahuila and Zacatecas, respectively, where students develop human and technical skills , administrative and business culture, as well as youth volunteering in the communities. In total, 1,200 students have graduated (766 from Peñoles and 97 from Fresnillo plc).

In addition, it was recently announced that by February 2022, Peñoles will launch the “life vest” that will be worn by personnel with hypertension and / or diabetes in order to monitor their health status and respond in a timely manner in case of presenting any condition that put them at risk. This measure is the first of its kind to be carried out in Mexico and in the sector.
