Officials at the Russian Embassy in Havana announced on August 15 that direct flights between the Cuban capital and Moscow in Russia would return next December. The tie-ups will be with Rossiya Airlines, which is part of state group Aeroflot.

According to reports With this announcement, Russia will continue to expand its flights with Cuba, which already supports other tourist centers such as Varadero and Cayo Coco in Chico de Avila. As a result, Russia will resume regular flights to Havana at the end of December, which were suspended by Western sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

In detail, the Russian company will return with two flights per week. Rossia also announced that it will increase its direct connections to Varadero to three weekly starting in September, as the high season for tourism in Cuba and the Caribbean approaches.

In addition, a Russian charter airline, Nordwind, has been operating flights to Cayo Coco Pole, Jardins del Rey Airport in the center of the island, on alternate days except Wednesdays and Sundays for several months. Data from Avilanian Airport itself.

Flights between Havana and Moscow?

Moscow and Havana are allies in many fields, both political and economic, and several agreements were signed between the two countries this year to support the increase in Russian tourists to the island. Moscow wants to become the first country to send tourists to the island, ahead of Canada, although that is far from reality.

To support the stay of Russians in Cuba, the government of that Eurasian country has already installed a Russian MIR system in Cuban banks so that ruble cards can be used. He wants to open his own bank branches in Havana and a hotel for his citizens in the country.

Prior to Western sanctions on Russia, numerous companies such as Azure Air, Aeroflot and the aforementioned Nordwind flew to Cuba. They also joined other territories such as the northern keys of Villa Clara, Cayo Santa Maria.
