Carina Nives Serrano won the re-election for mayor of Aguas Buenos Aires

The vote in the special election to elect the mayor of Aguas Buenos Aires is over, Karina Nives Serrano Won by a margin of 51 votes against Carlos “Jr.” AbondeWho was mayor of that city in the 90s.

When Julius Keegel Humayun’s new mayor won with 1,827 votes. At the end of yesterday’s special election, Keikal received 1,814 votes.

Two special elections were held on Sunday to fill vacancies for mayors facing corruption charges in the federal government. After the election, Geigel and Nieves Serrano will then have to begin taking the ethics and controller courses required by law to obtain certification from the State Election Commission (CEE).

Nives Serrano won by 58 votes yesterday at the end of the special election. As the vote difference between him and Aponde was less than 100 votes, the recount took place today at the CEE Operations Center on Monday.

The political leader received the support of Governor Pedro Pierluisi, who caused a stir Sunday afternoon among voters who visited five polling stations in Aguas Buenas.

As part of this fraudulent scheme, his predecessor from the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), Luis Arroyo Sikos, also benefited, pleading guilty and was sentenced to 24 months in prison and two years probation.

In Humacao, former mayor Reinaldo “Rey” Nieves also faces federal corruption charges.

In addition to Nieves Serrano and Aponte, Miguel Rodríguez, Rosa Vázquez and Efrain Ocasio participated in the special election.
