Caelestia Pays Tribute to Black Metal Icon Per Ohlin With New “Dead Eternal” Video and Album Release

Greek extreme metal band Caelestia has unveiled a new music video and single titled Dead Eternal, marking the latest release from the group’s forthcoming full-length album Revelations In Black, due for release on July 24, 2026 through Eclipse Records.

The Athens-based band has positioned the project as both a musical and cinematic tribute to Per Yngve “Pelle” Ohlin, the late vocalist of Norwegian black metal pioneers Mayhem, whose influence continues to shape the global extreme metal scene decades after his death.

Directed by filmmaker Sergios Vafiadis, known for previous work with established metal acts including Rotting Christ and Cirith Ungol, the video for Dead Eternal was filmed in Northern Attica and the historic First Cemetery of Athens. The production combines psychological themes with dark visual storytelling, reflecting the band’s broader artistic direction for the upcoming album.

“Dead Eternal” is the first of two planned music videos connected to Revelations In Black, which the band describes as a major evolution in its sound and identity.

Caelestia deliberately embraces the controversial nature of the subject matter, and vocalist Lordwinter acknowledges the calculated risk of presenting such shocking, provocative scenes, stating that sanitizing the footage would betray the emotional reality of the tragedy and the band presents this work as an on-screen tragedy, urging viewers to choose life over death.

The latest release also signals a broader shift in the band’s musical direction. Originally formed in Athens, Caelestia has developed a sound that blends melodic Scandinavian influences with the technical aggression associated with modern American death metal.

For the recording of Revelations In Black, the group worked with American producer Zack Ohren at Castle Ultimate Studios. Ohren is known for his work with heavy metal acts including Machine Head, Six Feet Under and Immolation.

The album’s production features a veteran rhythm section led by drummer Marc Reign, formerly associated with Morgoth and Destruction, alongside bassist Stelios “SD” Tragos. Guitarists Bill Thomas and Andrew Geo complete the line-up, contributing what the band describes as a more aggressive and technically refined sound compared with previous releases.

Lyrically, the album explores themes ranging from gothic literature and mythology to psychological trauma and historical conflict. The title track, Revelations In Black, draws inspiration from author Carl Jacobi’s vampire fiction story of the same name.

Meanwhile, Dead Eternal focuses directly on the legacy of Per Ohlin, widely known among black metal audiences by his stage name “Dead”. The band presents the track as both a tribute and an examination of the psychological darkness that became associated with the early Norwegian black metal movement.

Another track, Wolves, explores historical themes connected to the Werwolf organisation active during the final stages of the Second World War. According to the band, the lyrics examine the consequences of political propaganda and the manipulation of young people during the collapse of the Third Reich.

With artwork created by Elena Vasilaki, the visual presentation of the album forms a key part of the release strategy. The imagery incorporates mythological and metaphysical symbolism intended to complement the themes explored throughout the record.

Caelestia said Revelations In Black represents more than a continuation of previous material, describing the album as a complete immersion into a renewed creative identity shaped by cinematic storytelling and modern extreme metal production standards.

The album will feature ten tracks:
