US men’s national team soccer star Christian Pulisic may soon see his future lie away from the English Premier League, according to reports in Spain.

Pulisic has been in fine form for Chelsea so far this season. His performances have attracted the attention of the Spanish giants, Barcelona who have been linked with a move for the American attacking player. The 23-year-old is a vital player for his club team and has been a key for the American national team for many years.

International recognition

Pulisic has made such an impression since making his debut for his country in 2016 he’s been a regular ever since. He became the youngest player to captain his country back in 2018 as the USA took on Italy, taking the honor from Landon Donovan, at the age of just 20 years and 63 days. Now, after leading Gregg Berhalter’s team to victory in the Concacaf Gold Cup final in July 2021, Pulisic is hoping to fire his country back into the World Cup 2022, and they’re well placed to get there.

Chelsea’s champion

For Chelsea, Pulisic is beginning to prove he’s one of the top performers in the world. Ever since his move from German club Borussia Dortmund in 2019, which cost the London club around $74 million, according to Forbes, the focus has been on ‘Captain America’ to deliver. He made an immediate impact, scoring the first hattrick of his career within a few months of his arrival, although injuries curtailed his season somewhat. In 2020/21 though, he regained his place in the team and went on to become a vital part of the Blues’ side which lifted the Champions League. Pulisic would be the first American player to take home a winner’s medal after playing in the final against Manchester City.

This season, he’s continued in a similar vein, and he’s one of the first names on the team sheet for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea team. His three goals at the time of writing, including a dramatic equalizer against Liverpool in early January, only served as a highlight of his growing value, and he could add more silverware to his collection too. Pulisic is still in with a shout of adding to his medal haul with the Blues; they remain amongst the three favorites to win the title in Coral’s Premier League betting odds. They’re rightly ranked as one of the top tips, too, as Chelsea has proved to be very hard to beat this season with a strong defense, with Pulisic helping supply the ammunition for the likes of Romelu Lukaku to score the goals to keep them in the title hunt.

Will he be Barca bound?

The attraction of a potential move to Barca is plain to see; they’re one of the biggest clubs in the world, but they’re struggling right now and need a new talisman to help them regain their former glory. Pulisic could be the man to do that; also it would see him join his international teammate Sergiño Dest at the Camp Nou. However, the potential fee is likely to be upward of the $74million the Blues paid for him, which could price the Spanish club out of the move. Barca is struggling financially with debts of over $1billion. But it doesn’t stop them from looking to bring in the best young players, and Pulisic is undoubtedly one of those.

Although Barca is a huge attraction for any player, it’s tough to see how they could afford Pulisic. He is already very well placed for more silverware with Chelsea, and his stock keeps rising. The Premier League is the most-watched soccer league globally, so he is arguably already in the right place to hone his talents to help his team in London and further his ambition with his international teammates.
