A Russian-rehabilitated Cubana plane flies the Havana-Santiago route for the first time

With the Havana-Santiago flight, Cubana de Aviación made its debut, returning to the island after being rehabilitated in Russia. The plane touched down on Cuban soil two months ago and last Friday it completed its maiden voyage between the country’s two major cities.

Cuban Airlines itself announced this good news through its profile on the social networking site Facebook. “I am proud to share with you the exciting news of the reinstatement of the TU 204 aircraft into our fleet. Thank you for your trust and continued support! “We are excited about what the future holds and look forward to welcoming you on our flights with the TU 204.”

“Fly with us and experience an exceptional journey to every destination!” Cubana de Aviación made the call. In turn, he released a video related to the premiere of the flight.

TU 204 for domestic flights?

This is already a recurring question among users, especially Facebook. Many readers of Cubana’s publication doubt that the recently repaired aircraft will be used only on domestic flights.

The key question is, if a lot of money is spent on its rehabilitation, how will that budget be recouped by domestic flights? The plane returned to the island with 200 flight hours, meaning it was practically new.

Meanwhile, on the Facebook group “Cuban Aviation Lovers,” a woman who traveled on the inaugural Havana-Santiago flight said it was a success.

The TU-204 has been out of service for seven years, four of them in Russia, where it underwent extensive maintenance. The plane returned to Cuba last September and is estimated to no longer fly to national destinations. As the weeks go by, you should start visiting other Caribbean destinations.
