DILLEY, Texas – Migrants entering Texas illegally could end up being arrested in a southern state jail.
This as part of Governor Greg Abbott’s plan to combat the crisis at the border, as migrants who are arrested and face state criminal charges will begin to be taken to the Dolph Briscoe jail in Dilley, about 70 miles south of San Antonio. .
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice reported that, as of June 16, it began transferring the inmates of that facility to other prisons in the state to make room for the arrested migrants.
In a press release, the agency reported that it has the necessary capacity to assist in Operation Lone Star, as Governor Abbott’s border security plan has been called.
“The state of Texas continues to deal with a record influx of people crossing the border illegally. To address the current crisis, Governor Abbott is directing state resources to arrest and confine those who cross the border illegally and who have committed a state or federal crime, ”the statement explained.
