San Diego melodic deathcore band Cascade Effect has released a new single and music video, “Rogue Wave,” ahead of its upcoming full-length album, The Weight of Nothingness, scheduled for January 8, 2027, through Eclipse Records.
Directed by filmmaker Oz Riveros, the video combines storm imagery, intense live performance footage, and personal memories to explore mortality, technological overload, and the importance of human connection.
Cascade Effect Unveils “Rogue Wave” Music Video
“Rogue Wave” blends deathcore, groove metal, and melodic metal influences, combining heavy guitar riffs with atmospheric arrangements and emotional vocal passages.
The accompanying video places the five-member band inside a simulated ocean storm, using projected footage of massive waves, changing lights, and water effects to create a sense of danger and confinement.
Riveros uses these visual elements to reinforce the song’s central themes of uncertainty, loss, and the unpredictable nature of life.
Storm Imagery Reflects Emotional and Technological Overload
Throughout the video, crashing waves appear around the musicians as they perform, creating a visual representation of overwhelming circumstances.
The storm sequences are interrupted by archival footage featuring moments with friends and family.
These personal images contrast with the surrounding chaos, emphasizing the significance of relationships and memories amid life’s uncertainties.
The footage also establishes a connection with the band’s forthcoming video for “My Devil’s Hour,” which will explore darker psychological themes through similar personal imagery.
“Rogue Wave” is the first of three music videos planned for the upcoming album.
“Rogue Wave” Explores Artificial Intelligence and Human Disconnection
Beyond its visual presentation, the song examines the growing influence of digital technology on everyday relationships.
Vocalist Dustin Keimig describes the track as a reflection on how quickly circumstances can change and how constant exposure to technology can distract people from meaningful experiences.
Dustin Keimig Discusses the Meaning Behind the Song
“The personal connection to “Rogue Wave” comes from looking at the world around me and realizing how easy it is to lose sight of what actually matters,” explains vocalist Dustin Keimig.
“We’re constantly connected to devices, information, algorithms, and opinions, yet somehow it feels like people are becoming more disconnected from each other. At the same time, I’m aging, watching people I care about age, lose loved ones, experience unexpected tragedy, or sometimes disappear from our lives entirely. It makes me think about how important it is to appreciate the people and experiences we have while they’re still here. The real world is right in front of us, and I don’t want to let it pass by because I was too consumed by all the noise.”
The recurring waves represent both unexpected personal challenges and the growing volume of digital information competing for attention.
The Weight of Nothingness Arrives January 8, 2027
Cascade Effect’s forthcoming album, The Weight of Nothingness, will feature 13 tracks exploring mortality, isolation, regret, fear, and the search for meaning.
The record combines melodic death metal, deathcore, groove metal, progressive influences, and elements of nu metal.
Its musical approach emphasizes contrasts between low-tuned guitar arrangements, aggressive vocals, and melodic passages.
New Album Examines Mortality and Existential Themes
Several songs address different aspects of the album’s overarching themes.
“Rogue Wave” focuses on the passage of time and the tension between technological connectivity and genuine relationships.
“My Devil’s Hour” examines isolation and intrusive thoughts during periods of loneliness.
The title track, “The Weight of Nothingness,” approaches existential questions by challenging comforting beliefs about the afterlife and emphasizing the value of existence itself.
The album was engineered and mixed by Matthew Denis, whose credits include Nothing More, Greywind, and Diamante, at Skylit Sound and Total Access.
Mastering was completed by Miro Kiiski, known for work with Hypocrisy, PAIN, and Beast in Black, at Miro Mastering.
Album artwork was created by Keimig.
