After nearly 40 penalties, Ajax advance to the Europa League playoffs

With seventeen shots per side, the Dutch side advanced to the last qualifying round of the Europa League against Panathinaikos.

The Netherlands, who won the first leg 1-0 in Athens, saw their advantage slip away when Uruguayan Diego Alonso gave them the winner in the 89th minute. In the playoffs, Ajax will face Jagiellonia Bialystok. The Polish champions were eliminated in the previous round of the Champions League this week.
