Director of Epidemiology and Risk Management Dr. Edgar Santos highlighted the importance of this measure to protect vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women and the elderly. Considering factors such as the presence of the vector-borne mosquito and climate changes, the need for joint efforts between institutions and communities is emphasized to prevent the increase in cases.
A red alert also indicates the mobilization of resources and the activation of rapid response mechanisms such as the Center of Emergency Operations (COE) and enterprise technical teams. Local authorities, community leaders and other organizations are urged to join these efforts to prevent dengue from infecting more households and protect the health of Guatemalans.
