Nadia Komenesi, a multi-Olympic gymnast, has been living in the United States since 1989 and sent a video message on Tuesday ahead of Romania’s National Day, saying she was losing her country.

“Dear Romania, I miss you and mine. Today is a holiday, it’s Romania’s National Day. From here, from afar, I send you a lot of health, joy, light and respect with your loved ones. We will see you in the country soon after this epidemic. Happy birthday, Dear Romanians, Happy Birthday, Romania! ”Said the former best gymnast in a video message posted on the former Facebook page.

Nadia Komenesi, 59, who finished 10th in gymnastics and has a long history in world sports history, has lived in the United States since 1989 and is married to former American gymnast Bart Connor. In November 1989, at the end of the communist regime, he was able to cross the Romanian-Hungarian border illegally and seek political asylum with the US government.

About the career of Nadia Kominesi

In 1970 he competed nationally in Romania as a member of his city team. He soon began training with Bela Caroli and his wife, Martha Caroli, who later emigrated to the United States, where she became a trainer for several American gymnasts. At the age of 13, Komenesi won his first major victory at the 1975 European Championships in Norway, Spain, winning three gold and one silver medal. That same year, the Associated Press named her “Athlete of the Year.”

At the age of 14, Nadia Komenesi became a star at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec. Not only did he become the first gymnast to score ten points at the Olympics (seven times), he also won three gold medals (individual combination, beam and parallel bars), a silver medal (alloy team) and a bronze. (sol). At home, her success brought her the uniqueness of being a “Socialist Worker Man”, the proud youngest Romanian to be awarded this title.
