Dodgers (5 HR) bring out the cannons to sweep the Angels

LOS ANGELES — All-Star Mookie Betts hit his 10th home run in the first half of a season in Major League history — and the Los Angeles Dodgers finished with five straight in the second game. Los Angeles defeated the Angels 10-5 on Saturday.

The Dodgers enter the All-Star break 13 games over .500 and with a 51-38 record, a half-game behind Arizona for the lead in the NL West.

The Angels lost their fifth straight game and fell below .500 at 45-46. It was Freeway’s 10th loss in a row.

Shohei Ohtani hit his major league-leading 32nd home run, a two-run, 433-foot drive in the seventh and a double shy of the cycle. A single in the first and a triple in the third for the superstar.

Betts hit 26 home runs on the season, hitting 408 feet on the second pitch by pitcher Reed Bedmers.

Betts eclipsed Houston’s George Springer’s nine homers in the first half of the 2017 season.

For the Angels, Venezuelan Eduardo Escobar went 4-1 and Luis Rengifo went 3-1.

For the Dodgers, Venezuela’s Miguel Rojas was 4-0 and David Peralta was 1-1 with a run and an RBI. Miguel Vargas of Cuba scored a run to make it 2-0.
