SAN DIEGO — Dominican Juan Soto matched his career high with five hits and four RBIs, hit his fourth home run in nine games since Gary Sanchez joined San Diego, and the Padres crushed the Seattle Mariners 10-3 on Wednesday.
Soto had four singles and a double to raise his average to .265 with 10 homers and 31 RBIs for San Diego.
In the fourth inning, Soto hit an RBI single, in the fifth he scored two more runs as part of a three-run cluster, and in the seventh inning he hit an RBI double that made the score 10-0.
Except for Trind Grisham, every player who started for the Padres hit.
Matt Carpenter led the Padres with an RBI single in the second for 26 RBIs. Sanchez hit a three-run homer in the third off George Kirby (5-5).
Released by the New York Mets and drafted by San Diego on May 29, Sanchez is hitting .286 with 10 RBIs.
Michael Wacha (6-2) allowed two hits over six scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking one.
For the Mariners, Panamanian Jose Caballero without an official hit but with an RBI. Dominicans Julio Rodriguez 4-1 RBI, Teoscar Hernandez 3-0. Venezuela Eugenio Suarez and 2-0.
For the Padres, Dominicans Fernando Tadis Jr. went 4-1 with one run scored and one RBI, Soto went 5-5 with one run scored and four RBIs, Sanchez went 5-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
