Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine gave an update on this COVID-19 Thursday in the state, and announced new regulations to help slow the spread.
“The situation we are in now is very bad,” Wolf said. “It is clear that we need to take further mitigation efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
Beginning Saturday, Wolf said course school activities such as sports practices have been suspended. Restaurants will not be allowed to provide indoor service, but outdoor seating and exit will still be allowed. Business is also suspended for other indoor facilities such as theaters, museums, cinemas, casinos and gyms, although retailers can operate at 50% capacity.
Indoor meetings are limited to 10 people and outdoor meetings are limited to a maximum of 50 people.
These measures come into effect on Saturday, December 12 at 12:01 a.m. and expire on Monday, January 4 at 8 p.m.
“It’s a commanding virus,” Wolf said. “If we want to fight this virus, that’s what we’re going to deal with,” he said, adding that the situation was “disgusting” and “painful.”
The wolf ordered the residents to take help The struggling restaurant industryy, urged Congress to pass a relief bill to help more businesses.
“We need our federal leaders to provide the support these businesses need,” he said.
Levine said the government was watching the rise in corona virus cases and that a total of 450,000 cases had passed in recent weeks. More than 12,000 deaths in the state have been attributed to COVID-19, he said, adding that about 1,000 people have died in the past week. There is an increase in infections among younger residents, Levine said.
Wolf said Wednesday Tested positive for COVID-19 But “feeling good” and no symptoms. He said he continues to perform his duties at a distance. On Thursday he came across his most recent test negative, but he was in isolation.
“My positive test is a reminder that no one is immune from COVID. Following all the precautionary measures I did is not a guarantee, but we know it is important to prevent the spread of the disease,” the wolf said in the statement.
He asked all Pennsylvanians to wear masks, stay home as much as possible, and keep a social distance from those outside their homes.
