The second and final concert of the cycle “Other Voices of Romanesque”, which was organized with a grant from the Municipal Foundation for Culture in Gijon City CouncilToday, Saturday 22nd, at 8:00 pm, in the San Juan de Senero Convent. Valladolid’s choir “AudiNos” and the organizing choir “De las Otra Voces” will participate.
As is usual in this session, before the concert there will be a guided tour of the many Romanesque churches of the Council of Gijón, which will be run by the historian Victor Piccalo. The visit will begin in the Church of San Andrés de Serres, which appears in documents from the tenth century, although the oldest parts of its factory that have come down to us date from the thirteenth century and are the apse, the triumphal arch and the western gate. The visit will continue at the Church of San Miguel de Dueñas, a small hermitage dating back to the 12th century that preserves its capitals skillfully carved into the stone of its apse windows. The next stop for the visit will be San Juan de Deva, whose original work dates back to a primitive monastery from the 10th century, and the visit will end at the church of San Juan Bautista de Senero where the concert will take place. The choir invited to this second concert is the chamber choir “Odenos”, founded in Valladolid in 2003. It is directed by Veronica Rioja and will perform a musical program with works by Jacob Arcadelt (16th century), Francis Villa, Astor Piazzola and two black spirits.
The Las Otra Voces Choir will give a concert with various songs. It will begin with our oldest musical note sheet: the Seikilos Elegy (2nd century AD), continuing with Renaissance villianiskas, troubadour songs, and two Asturian styles.
