A long line waited this morning at the gates of the Palau de la Generalitat for the sarcophagus containing the remains of Professor Santiago Gresulia. At 10:30, the hearing arrived on schedule and the place chosen opened its doors so that the people of Valencia could say goodbye and pay homage to the scientist who died yesterday at the age of 99 in the clinical hospital.

There were many personalities who gathered to bid farewell to this special Valencian. The President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, the government delegate, Pilar Bernabé, the President of the PPCV, Carlos Mazon, the President of Les Corts or the President of the AVE, Vicente Boluda, among others, were not absent. But above all, many citizens wanted to thank Professor Grisulia for putting society on the scientific map of the world.

The loss of Santiago Grisolia left a huge void in Valencia, throughout society, and in the scientific community. The Generalitat issued a three-day mourning edict to remember and honor one of the creators of the Jaume I Awards.

The President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, has announced the creation of the Santiago Grisolía Valencian Science Awards, an initiative that will reward excellence in scientific activity carried out in the Valencian Community and through which it seeks to preserve the “exceptional” legacy of the world, thus making the “permanent mark” that it finally left.

After attending the Santiago Grisolia Funeral Church, which was held in the Palau de la Generalitat, the Consell Responsible confirmed that these prizes, which will be awarded in conjunction with World Science Day, will have a way of rewarding people with a unified reward path in the field of science in Valencian society and in another way to identify young people who distinguished themselves at the beginning of their research career also in the Valencian community.

The new awards will be promoted by the Generalitat, together with the Rei Jaume I Awards Foundation, and the jury will include the participation of Valencia Public Universities.
