The Board of Directors agreed to award the contract to contract the formulation of an expansion project Contemporary Art Museum Alicante with an implementation period of eight months, with a basic bid budget of €399.079.78. After the expansion works, the area occupied by the museum will reach 8,200 square meters.

“We are talking about an extension of approximately 3,600 square metres,” says a council member Culture, Antonio Manresa. “If we take into account that the surface of the MACA makes up about 4,600 square metres, the expansion that we thought would give it about 75 percent more, with which we can have new possibilities for displaying plastic works, painting and photography, and in addition to sculpture, at a large scale. In the initial sketches and drawings we lay out some specifications for what we need, such as a huge new room in height, in which we give the building a large space, the mayor says “it is an ideal place to house the grandiose statues”.

The municipal spokesperson says that MACA’s expansion “is a cry from the entire cultural sector and from the museum itself. We have photographic collections that deserve to be known to the city of Alicante and our visitors”.

“We recently received a large artistic donation from Jenkins and Romero collectors Which will increase the cultural interest in the museum itself. This collection, made up of 291 creations by 155 international artists, should be shown to the citizens of Alicante and to the art world, we will grow in the cultural tourism markets of European capitals such as Paris, where they were already interested in the names of the creators who composed it.

Alicante offers not only sun and sand, which we must continue to preserve, but also a cultural life with exhibitions that must be displayed and known to our citizens and tourists”, explains the advisor.

The government team’s decision is taken in light of the grandiose projection of the emblematic Alicante Museum, which has seen its path unified as a superb modern art gallery after the donation of nearly 300 pioneering works in the past 50 years by American gallery owner Michael Jenkins and Alicante art historian Javier Romero, who agreed to accept and receive By the Board of Directors of the City Council of Alicante. Added to this very important donation is the recent signing of an agreement with the Mediterranean Foundation that renews the deposit at MACA for its outstanding art exhibition which is admired by hundreds of visitors that the Alicante Museum records daily
